UFOs Over Bynum
by
Ronny Wheeler

During the late 1950s there were several reports
of UFOs over Bynum. Wellll, there is an
explanation about most of the sightings.

3 teenagers decided to excite everyone at Bynum
with some late nite sightings. They took an old
fire extinguisher bottle, some red devil lye,
some chopped up aluminum and some water and made
a hydrogen generator. They knew this would work
because they did a variation of it in chemistry class at Oxford.

The 3 teenagers scrounged up some old weather
balloons and some miniature flashlights. They
turned on the flashlights, put them in the
balloons, filled the balloons with hydrogen from
the makeshift generators, tied off the balloon necks and…… let them go.

This all happened on the playground, in the tennis courts, late at night.

Then the fun began. The Anniston Star had a few
calls and so did the local constabulary. But, no
one could give a very good description of the
UFOs except they had a light glow and kind of drifted around.

The events stopped when the dubious trio ran out of balloons.

Descriptions of the trio have been kept secret
for almost 50 years but I hear one of them was blonde and curly headed.

I wonder where those balloons ended up?
